Prof. Dr. Daniela Grunow - Curriculum Vitae

Daniela Grunow is a Full Professor of Sociology specialising in “Quantitative Analyses of Social Change" at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Goethe-University in Frankfurt am Main. Her research and teaching focus on the interaction of paid work, domestic work and gender relations in different welfare states as well as social integration and cohesion. She approaches these subjects by applying different empirical methods, especially techniques for longitudinal data analysis.

Daniela Grunow is speaker and PI of the research group FOR 5173: Reconfiguration and Internalisation of Social Structure (RISS), together with Richard Traunmüller (co-speaker). The research group develops a theoretically grounded empirical approach to the analysis of multidimensional social structural changes, their internalisation and socio-political effects.
She is also co-speaker (jointly with Nicole Deitelhoff, speaker, and Rainer Forst, co-speaker) of the Frankfurt division of the Research Institute Social Cohesion (RISC), a network of eleven university and research institutes, investigating social cohesion from an interdisciplinary point of view. In addition, Daniela Grunow has led a number of German and international research projects, including the ERC project "APPARENT -Transition to parenthood: International and national studies of norms and gender division of work at the life course transition to parenthood", as well as various ongoing and completed DFG and BMBF-funded projects.

Daniela Grunow is founding member and director of the Institute for Empirical-Analytical Research (InFER) at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Goethe University, jointly with Markus Gangl, as well as founding member of the Academy of Sociology.

Since 2020, she has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Marriage and Family. Prior to that she was editor of the Kölner Zeitschrift für Soziologie und Sozialpsychologie (from 2015 to 2020), jointly with Thomas Schwinn (Universität Heidelberg) and Michael Wagner (Universität Köln).

In 2017, Daniela Grunow was awarded a Goethe-Fellowship, a pogram for the promotion of research-excellence in the humanities and social sciences at the Forschungskolleg Humanwissenschaften in Bad Homburg.

Daniela Grunow was born in 1975 in Bad Oeynhausen and studied sociology at the universities of Marburg (Germany), Bielefeld (Germany) and Amsterdam (NL) from 1996 to 2001. She received her Ph.D. (summa cum laude) from the Otto-Friedrich University Bamberg (Germany) in 2006. From 2006 to 2008 she was a Postdoctoral Associate at the Center for Research on Inequalities and the Life Course, Yale University (CT, USA). Before joining the Goethe-University Daniela Grunow was a faculty member at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam (NL) from 2008 to 2012.
