Yassine Khoudja is a postdoctoral associate at the Institute of Sociology of the Goethe-University (GU) Frankfurt am Main.

Yassine studied sociology at the University of Göttingen, the University of California, San Diego, and Utrecht University. From 2013 until 2017, he conducted his PhD-research at the Interuniversity Center for Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS) and the European Research Center of Migration and Ethnic Relations (ERCOMER) at Utrecht University. After completing his dissertation, he has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at ERCOMER before joining the Institute of Sociology at the GU. He has supervised numerous undergraduate theses and taught courses on empirical social research, the exclusion of ethnic minorities, immigrant integration processes, cultural diversity, gender inequalities in families and in the labor market, and educational inequalities.

Yassine is broadly interested in social processes at the intersection of social categories and the interrelation between social, economic, and cultural transformations. He has investigated economic and cultural integration processes of immigrants and their children and the influence of gender ideology on women's labor market behavior across ethnic groups. More recently, he has become interested in political polarization and fragmentation trends in Europe and multidimensional perspectives on the changing social structure. He has published amongst others in European Sociological Review, Journal of Marriage and Family, Social Science Research, and International Migration Review.

Current research projects

Yassine is currently involved in two research projects: The project “Does Europe grow together? Convergence and divergence of political attitudes in Europe" (lead with Prof. Dr. Daniela Grunow) (January 2021-December 2023) funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), focuses on the structure of public opinion in Europe investigating from different analytical perspectives how attitudes on key political issues intersect in different European countries and how this has changed over the last decades.

The DFG-funded project "RISS 1 CoRE: Conceptualizing Reconfiguration for Empirical Research" (lead with Prof. Dr. Daniela Grunow and Prof. Dr. Richard Traunmüller) is part of the DFG research group "FOR5173 Reconfiguration and Internalization of Social Structure". Using a multidimensional perspective, the project examines how the social structure in Germany has changed since the 1980s and how these changes have been internalized by individuals.
