Curriculum Vitae - Dr. Valentin Rauer

Valentin Rauer has worked from July of 2010 to June 2013 as a research fellow in the “Transformation of Security Culture” project at the Goethe University Frankfurt. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education.

He studied at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and the Humboldt University in Berlin in Social Sciences and Medicine. From 1999-2000 he worked as a research fellow on the project “Symbolic exclusion. Ethnicization of modern societies” at the Humboldt University in Berlin. From 2000 until 2009 he worked at the University of Konstanz and EUI Florence in various research projects as a research fellow, including “Europeanization of national public” (DFG-Projekt at EUI-Florence, Italy/ Konstanz University). Other projects he worked on include “(Trans)national Rituals of Remembrance after the Second World War in Europe” at the interdisciplinary joint research union “Norms and Symbols” at Konstanz University and “Social Dimensions of Catastrophes and cultural disorder”. In 2006 he finished his PhD thesis, titled “The impact of the Public Sphere on Integration”. From 2007-2010, he was a participant of the Center of Excellence:  ‘The Cultural Foundations of Integration 'at the University of Konstanz. He co-chaired the project ‘Ambivalent identities in immigrant societies’. He received a postdoctoral grant at the University of Bielefeld on the Bielefeld School for History and Sociology from January to July 2010. He has taught at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in the Department of Social Science since July of 2010.
