NATO, UN, EU, NGOs, think tanks – numerous actors tackle international security challenges and offer various potential career paths. But how can graduates find their way into these international security organizations? Three professionals in international security will share their experience about career paths into international and European security and defense organizations. Students will have the opportunity to get an overview of different career options, hear personal experiences, and ask specific questions to the speakers.

The speakers cover a wide range of career options in different institutions and have experience also with entry-level programs. Pauline Brosch is a Policy Analyst, Peace and Security at UN Women in New York. She has previously worked for UN Women in Afghanistan and for MINUSCA in the Central African Republic. She will also share her experience as a Carlo Schmid Fellow at the Office of the UN SRSG on Sexual Violence in Conflict, legal intern at the UN International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) in Arusha and trainee at the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR).

Sophie-Charlotte Fischer is a Senior Researcher in the Swiss and Euro-Atlantic Security Team at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) at ETH Zurich. Previously, Sophie worked as a Tech- Fellow and consultant with the Policy Planning Staff of the German Foreign Office. As a Mercator Fellow on International Affairs, she worked with the UN Office for Disarmament Affairs' Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific and the Global Politics of AI Program at Yale University.
She gained further work experience with NATO and the German Institute for Human Rights.

Julia Hüntemann, currently a Carlo Schmid Fellow at NATO, will complement the debate
with her work experience in Brussels, also at the European Parliament and share her experience as an intern at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency.

Moderation: Nele Kortendiek, PostDoc at the Chair for International Institutions and Peace
Processes.

It is a truism that climate change is among the most difficult and urgent tasks that humanity faces today. Over the last decades, there has been a vivid academic debate in political philosophy and political theory about the ethical dimension of a changing climate. This year marks not only the publication of the newest IPCC report, but also of four new books by internationally recognized academics in the field of climate justice. Additionally, what these books also have in common is that they aim to address a wider audience and put forward the case for why we should act now and what climate justice means in a fundamentally unjust world.

This hybrid event will feature the discussion of the new publications on climate justice, which include Elizabeth Cripps' “What Climate Justice Means and Why We Should Care"; Catriona McKinnon's “Climate Justice and Political Theory"; Darrel Moellendorf's “Mobilizing Hope: Climate Change and Global Poverty" as well as Henry Shue's “The Pivotal Generation: Why We Have A Moral Responsibility to Slow Climate Change Right Now".

Registration is required as seating is very limited. Please contact Ellen Nieß: ellen.niess@normativeorders.net
