It is a truism that climate change is among the most
difficult and urgent tasks that humanity faces today. Over the last decades,
there has been a vivid academic debate in political philosophy and political
theory about the ethical dimension of a changing climate. This year marks not
only the publication of the newest IPCC report, but also of four new books by
internationally recognized academics in the field of climate justice.
Additionally, what these books also have in common is that they aim to address
a wider audience and put forward the case for why we should act now and what
climate justice means in a fundamentally unjust world.
This hybrid event will feature the discussion of the new publications on climate justice, which include Elizabeth Cripps' “What Climate Justice Means and Why We Should Care"; Catriona McKinnon's “Climate Justice and Political Theory"; Darrel Moellendorf's “Mobilizing Hope: Climate Change and Global Poverty" as well as Henry Shue's “The Pivotal Generation: Why We Have A Moral Responsibility to Slow Climate Change Right Now".
