Alfred Grosser, born in Frankfurt in 1925, is a professor of political science and sociology and an internationally active publicist. Among other things, he is regarded as an important pioneer of Franco-German understanding after the Second World War. In November 2009, he introduced the Visiting Professorship for Civic Society Research with three lectures on "Civic Society and Democracy in Germany and France." Each winter semester, a selection committee chooses a visiting professor. Highlights of the visiting professorship are an opening lecture and a public lecture.
We are pleased to introduce Prof. Dr. phil. Nenad Stojanović, this year's holder of the Alfred Grosser Visiting Professorship of the Faculty of Social Sciences in cooperation with the Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft Frankfurt am Main.
Nenad Stojanović is a Swiss National Science Foundation SNF Professor of Political Science at the University of Geneva, an Associate Researcher at the Center for Democracy Aarau, and a Private Lecturer at the University of Lucerne.
His research focuses on institutions and challenges of democracy in multicultural and multilingual societies. His publications include Dialogue sur les quotas: Penser la représentation dans une démocratie multiculturelle (Paris: Presses de Sciences Po 2013; Italian translation: Dialogo sulle quote, Bologna: IIMulino, 2014), Democracy in the European Union: A Swiss Contribution to the Debate (Zurich: Schulthess; ed. with D. He leads the project 'Demoscan', which aims to strengthen public opinion formation in the run-up to the referendum in the Swiss context via lottery and deliberative approach.
The semester opening lecture entitled 'Democracy and Language' will take place on Monday, 27.11.2023 at 18:00 s.t. in the PEG Building, Room 2.G 121.
